Un po’ italiano, un po’ inglese, un po’ swailie. Non è facile capirsi con Lenin, 6 anni, vivacissima presenza nella casa accoglienza Peter Pan di Roma, arrivato con la mamma dal Kenya per curare una forma di leucemia. Quello che si capisce subito, però, è quanto gli manca la propria casa, gli amici, gli affetti. Il suo desiderio, carpito con la paziente collaborazione della mamma, è stato di ricevere un pc, per ricollegarsi con il mondo. Un desiderio che Make-A-Wish ha realizzato subito, organizzando la consegna del pc proprio a casa di una famiglia kenyota di Roma, dove ha potuto parlare swailie, riassaporare i gusti della cucina tipica del suo paese e cantare e ballare tutto il giorno. L’emozione della mamma di Lenin è tutta nella lettera, in inglese, che ci ha inviato.
Dear Make-A-Wish Italia, it’s with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to thank you tremendously for making Lenin's dream come true. I am sure he will live to remember this moment for the rest of his life. Lenin is extremely happy and at least now he will be able to see the photos of his other siblings on the computer and also play a variety of games. […] The most touching moment for me during this occasion is when Lenin was told to guess what was in the box. Can you imagine what this little Angel said? He said and I quote: "Kupona!" Kupona is a Swahili word which means Health or to be well. I was almost in tears. Even your staff were so amazed. Lenin thought that if he opened the box then he would become well just in a 'click of a second'. He thought that by opening the box, leukaemia would go away and never come back. But no! It was not health, Nor a big car because a big car would not fit in a box. Wallah! Yes! It was a computer! The moment we all had been waiting for. We could not wait to see the surprise on his face. He was so stunned and moreso mesmerised. Thank you Make-A-Wish for making Lenin's Day and moreso for making my day different from the other days. I always get sad when I reach the Residential gate(Peter Pan) because of the bad memories of Leukaemia but today I had a wide smile on my face. Keep it up! Thank you for making me stronger because it is a good sign that there is a light beyond the tunnel. I am counting my lucky stars now because I believe this is the end of leukaemia not only in Lenin but also in other children in the world. I believe in miracles and hope you believe too.
